Sydney Metro City & Southwest Tunnel and Station Excavation (TSE) Works

CPB Contractors, with John Holland and Ghella, delivered twin 15.5 km tunnels and civil works for Sydney Metro, Australia’s largest public transport project.
The tunnels extended from Chatswood to Sydenham beneath Sydney Harbour and the CBD, supported by five tunnel boring machines.
The works included new underground stations, cross passages, dive structures, a crossover cavern, and the manufacture of almost 100,000 tunnel lining segments.
The package was completed in mid-2021.

At The Face provided permanent mechanical and electrical labour on a rotating roster to support continuous tunnelling operations.
We supervised the assembly, testing, and final commissioning of two HK Double Shield TBMs, ensuring they operated safely and efficiently.
In addition, we managed production and maintenance mechanical crews, coordinating all activities to maintain high productivity, minimise downtime, and deliver a reliable tunnelling operation from start to finish.

PENPAC SERVICES NSW (Mettalliance France)
At Penpac Services NSW, in partnership with Mettalliance France, we carried out comprehensive mechanical overhauls of a wide range of MSV, TSP, and MenRidders machinery, ensuring all equipment operated reliably and efficiently.
Additionally, we provided on-site commissioning and testing of various Mettalliance logistic equipment used across the Australian tunnelling industry.
Through our technical expertise and hands-on support, we ensured that all machinery met operational and safety standards, contributing to smooth, safe, and uninterrupted tunnelling operations.
M6 Stage One – CPB Contractors and Ghella Joint Venture (CGUJV) – Sydney, NSW
CPB Contractors and UGL, in partnership with Ghella, delivered Stage 1 of Sydney’s M6 motorway.
The project provided an underground connection from President Ave, Kogarah to the M8, including mainline tunnels, ramps, shared cycle and pedestrian paths, and provisions for a future Stage 2.
Stage 1 improved travel times, reduced congestion, and diverted trucks from local streets. Work commenced in 2022 and is to be opened to traffic in late 2028.

We supplied permanent mechanical and electrical labour on a rotating roster to support continuous mine tunnelling operations.
In addition, we provided off-site services, including the complete rebuilding of all types of mine tunnel equipment.
Our team ensured that machinery was restored to optimal performance, minimising downtime and supporting safe, efficient, and reliable operations throughout the project.
Komatsu Joy Global – Sydney, NSW
At Komatsu Joy Global in Sydney, New South Wales, we assisted in the research and development of the prototype MC51 Roadheader.

Our role involved providing technical support and practical insights to refine the design, functionality, and performance of the equipment.

By contributing hands-on expertise, we helped ensure the prototype met operational requirements and safety standards for the tunnelling and mining industry.
