Sydney Metro Eastern Tunnel Package – John Holland, CPB Contractors and Chella Joint Venture (JCGJV) - NSW /CHINA
Sydney Metro is the largest public transport development in Australia. The John Holland, CPB Contractors and Ghella Joint Venture (JCG) has been engaged to deliver the Sydney Metro West – Eastern Tunnelling Package (ETP).
The scope of the ETP involves building 3.5 kilometers of twin tunnels beneath Sydney Harbour, linking The Bays with the CBD, as well as excavating the future Pyrmont and Hunter Street stations.

From The Bays, tunnel boring machines will travel beneath the harbour close to Anzac Bridge, continue to the new Pyrmont Station, then pass under Darling Harbour before arriving at Hunter Street in Sydney’s CBD.
Once in operation, Sydney Metro West will significantly increase rail capacity between Greater Parramatta and the CBD, reducing the journey between the two centers to around 20 minutes.
We conducted complete Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) of two HK slurry TBMs in China, ensuring they met all operational and safety standards before shipment.
Following this, we supervised the assembly, commissioning, and launch of both TBMs on-site, overseeing all aspects of mechanical and electrical installation.
Our team developed, trained, and managed mechanical crews to provide ongoing service and support for the project, while delivering day-to-day on-site supervision to maintain smooth operations.
In addition, we supplied permanent mechanical and electrical labour on a rotating roster and provided off-site services, including the rebuilding, refurbishment, and preventative maintenance of all types of TBM and mine tunnel equipment.
Through this comprehensive approach, we ensured the TBMs operated safely, efficiently, and reliably, minimizing downtime and supporting the successful completion of the tunnelling works.
Western Harbour Tunnel Package 2 - ACCIONA Construction Australia Pty Ltd – NSW/CHINA
The Western Harbour Tunnel project involves constructing a new motorway beneath Sydney Harbour to link North Sydney with Rozelle, providing a bypass of the CBD.
Stage 2 of the project covers the section from Cove Street, Birchgrove, to the Warringah Freeway near North Sydney, including tunnelling under the harbour and full tunnel fit out.
The contract for Stage 2 was awarded to ACCIONA by Transport for NSW in December 2022.
